Consider the occasion when I washed the feet of my disciples. I told them, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand." This act was a symbol of the deeper cleansing that my sacrifice was to bring, a cleansing not of physical dirt, but of the soul.
On the cross, my blood was shed as a final, ultimate act of love and surrender. It was the fullest expression of the love of God, given freely and unconditionally for all of humanity. In this act, a pathway was created, a new covenant forged, that allowed for reconciliation between humanity and the Father.
Just as one cleanses a garment soiled by the world, so too does my sacrifice cleanse those who accept it from the spiritual soil and stain of their transgressions, bringing them into renewed fellowship with the Father. This is not simply a matter of rules being satisfied, but of love being fully expressed and fully realized.
My blood symbolizes God's profound love and grace towards you, and it's by recognizing this love and responding to it with faith that one experiences the transformation of the heart and the renewing of the spirit.
As always, love each other as I have loved you.
